Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I coach in Louisiana and we just had our State Championship games this past weekend. The marquee matchup was in 5A with Evangel vs West Monroe. Both of these programs, year in and year out are among the best in the country. The have two of the finest coaches in the country.
WM scored with 26 seconds remaining and decided to go for the win by going for 2! What a gutsy call! It did not work. I am not here to second guess WM coach Don Shows, he does an unbelievable job and I didn't have a problem with his decision to go for the win.
I would like to hear replies about play-calling in two-point situations. WM ran there bread and butter (Inside Veer to the openside of a Pro-I). Do you feel in that situation that you run your bread and butter, or do you have two point plays prepaired?
What are some two point plays that you work on each week, or at least go into a game with, in case you need them?
Well I can relate. In 2003 I called our bread and butter for the win and we came up and inch (literally) short. I think you have to call a play that you and your players will not second guess. That being said this past season we prepared special 2 point plays and worked on them in practice. Often times it involves a quick shift such as running our holder under center (he was our regular QB) and then running 1 of 2 predetermined plays. Another thing we do is get into Ace trips. For us that means 2 TE, 1 TB, and two split recievers to the same side forming a trips set. Our QB surveys the D and if he can hit one of the 2 TEs on a seam he calls that. If that is not available we run speed option. Our two split recievers run go routes to the back of the end zone and then cross setting natural picks for eachother. If the QB can run it in he will, if he pitches it the TB has the option of throwing a pass to either of the 2 recievers or running it in himself. I know the is alot there, but it works. It is the only play you really need b/c of all the options available. Back to my 2003 experience...if I had to do it over again I will still call the same play. We were averaging 7.4 yard per carry on that play over the course of the game. The TB was the best player in the conference, and I think you live and die with your best players and best plays. Nine times out of ten he scores and we win.
