Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Let's say I am an insde and outside veer option team. Is the mid-line attack a good compliment? What about the trap option? All of this is ran out of the Pro-I formation granted.
"It's ruff out there Coach!" "I know son, that's why girls don't play the game!" "Pain heals, Chicks dig scars, and Pride, well boys, that stuff lasts FOREVER!!"

Coach,
I love the midline and the veer. I think you should have both plays in your attack. The trap opton can also be a great play because you can really get the DT your traping confused. One play you run ISV and the DT reads dive. The next play you run trap option and of course the DT is darting inside looking for dive then out of nowhere he gets trapped. Once you get the DT thinking about wheather he is going to see dive or trap you can have a field day with him.
I agree with Coach Nicholson. The best part about midline is that it sets up the inside veer by forcing DT's to align in the A-gap, which will give your OL perfect angles on ISV. The defense can't be right.
I ran the midline and ins veer last season and the midline was by far our most productive, kc is right the defense has to cover a gaps to stop mid line and reduce the ends from 5 techs, to 4's to stop inside veer and now you have a great scenario for the o.v. or the load opt.
I believe in what Coach Campbell states on opening your outside attack. We were successful early with the midline vs. a team this season and they were not able to have there MLB's(4-4)helping in pursuit or making tackles on our outside stuff, because they were concerned with not getting beat on midline with the FB or QB. Midline is a great addition to any option attack. We just added it this past season and I'm very glad we did. We run wing-t, so we ran a belly option and down option, then we added triple option/veer two seasons ago and now midline this past season, great stuff. Good luck.
This was our first year running the option as the baseof our offense. We stumbled through a 1-9 season but not totally because of the offense ... we were horrible defensively, just could not stop anyone. I believe we tried to put in too much for the first year with the offense but, in the long run, we will be better for it. By that I mean that our young team (36 of 47 in their first or second year EVER playing football) got a taste of ISV, OSV and Midline. We were most successful with the Midline and it was an EXCITING play for us all season long. We are sold and dedicated to this quest - we WILL be better over the next several years because we have turned to the option. It gives us more opportunities for success given the experience and talent level of our players who are among the most positive I have encountered in 20 years of coaching. To improve we must get better at passing off of the option to keep teams honest and out of the box.
Thanks to all of you great coaches for your willingness to help us out - the input from so many of you has been fantastic. Happy Holidays to all!
You are doing the right thing committing to an offensive system. I truly believe you cannot "dabble" with the triple option attack. The amount of practice time it takes to work the different reads and audibles does not leave enough time to do much else. By the staff and players knowing what you are "hanging your hat on" offensively, success will surely follow. Best of luck.

Coach you are right about staff they must all buy in and you must be willing to put the game in the Qb'S HANDS FOR AUDIBLES ON OR AT THE LOS. Coach we givew the Option on me and our option game Ten minutes aday of practice with still being able to run the gun option attack along with our passing game with 4 and 5 receivers. We give our practices 18 to 24 periods aday which equates to 5 minute periods. Coach CAmpbell

Coach Campbell,
Coach Campbell and all coaches, it is a pleasure to visit this site everyday. I've been coaching in Massachusetts for 12 years and have coached in wishbone, "I" and most recently in the last 7 years wing-t. In the first five years I had run traditional wing-t system as the offensive coordinator and recently added triple/isv two years ago and midline this past season. I love both options in our wing-t system. We use jet motion a lot and will add more jet motion to our triple and midline plays. Once again, I enjoy being able to visit a site and get all the comments and opinions of so many coaches. Good luck in the off-season and Happy Holidays to everyone.
WE HAVE JUST COMPLETED OUR SECOND SEASON INSTALLING THE OPTION GAME. MIDLINE HAS MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE. YEAR ONE WE DID NOT HAVE IT AND FINISHED 3-7. AFTER SPENDING TIME WITH COACH CAMPBELL AT CLINICS, HAVING HIM TO OUR SCHOOL AND THEN VISITING HIM DOWN IN TEXAS WE FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE WITH MIDLINE AND WE WENT TO THE DIVISION 1 NORTH SECTION SEMI-FINAL. IT MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN WHAT WE COULD DO TO THE DEFENSE. HERE ARE A COUPLE OF SUGGESTIONS. HAVE AND "OPPOSITE" CALL. WE LIKE TO RUN IT TO THE 2 OR 3 TECH. SO WE GIVE OUR QB THE ABILITY TO CALL OPPOSITE WHEN WE DO NOT GET WHAT WE WANT. WE RUN THE FLEX BONE AND I AND IT ALSO HELPS FREEZE THE SAFTIES FROM COMING DOWNHILL WITH MOTION. IT ALSO HAS ALLOWED US TO USE NON-TRADITIONAL FB TYPE KIDS AT THAT POSTION. SOME OF OUR QUICKER KIDS HAVE MADE A KILLING ON MIDLINE. JUST A FEW QUICK THOUGHTS!
Not much to offer in the way of knowledge with this post, but I wanted to tell you how much I agree w/what you said about quick FB.
When running midline, IMO, quick FB are the key to success. Granted, they may have trouble pass blocking a 300 DE, but there are other ways around that.
We were slowed with injuries to our FB's, but they were stout, quick and little, not big-time bruisers. With those quick FB's, all your PSG has to do on Mid-Line is graze the LB and that those quick FB's are off to the races.
