Guys I need help! I've been coaching youth football a few years. I'm 31 and I've decided to go back to school because I want to coach full time on a high school or college level. So, like a lot of new coaches I've been surfing the internet for as much info as I could possibly find. And I feel that this is the best source of informattion for any coach new or experienced. I've already taking notes from some of the postings on this forum. Mostly from ONEBACK and TIGER ONE. So I've come to you guys and anyone else willing to help with a few questions.
I know that the WCO relies on memory, and that some playboooks have a different rout tree for each WR position.
I'm a control freak and I like to direct traffic. I want to use one route tree for all WR , a protection/QB drop scheme and some way of telling the back to release left or right (strong or weak) depending on the protection called.
My questions are:
1. "Pass Terminology". What is the best way to call formations, alignment, protection, the direction the back will be releasing out into his route and the WR routes. On top of that, I want the QB to know what his progression reads are based on the way the play is called, without being to wordy or am I being over zealous and asking for to much.
2. "Playbooks" I beleive I'll be o.k. with the running game. (if not I'll be back w/more questions.) But I need help developing a passing game. The style of passing I'm interested in has ties to the "AIR" Coryell and the Sid Gillman type offenses run by so many of their desciples today. ie MIKE MARTZ(Rams), NORV TURNER(Raiders), TOM MOORE(Colts)and of course JOE GIBBS(Redskins)!
I know that I have to comprimise some of my control to shorten the terminology. I just wanted to know what are some of your ideas on how to get the most out of play calling with as little as possible. i'm o.k. with up to total of 9 words & numbers combined.
