Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We have been a double slot option team the past two seasons like Navy/Geo Soutern. We have not had great success but I believe in the system. I probably need to do a better job coaching it. While we have not had great talent (which is exactly why I believe it suits our team), the other coaches really believe we need to change the system - If for no other reason than to get our kids excited about something new, since what we have been doing has not had the most success. I am an option guy and I want to stick with it but I do not feel that players and coaches alike will be all that enthusiastic if we keep with the same offense. While I know people will do what I tell them it is hard to make people believe in something they have not seen work. Any advice?
Also, do you option guys bellieve that you can only run option if you have a stud at QB? I think even a decent athlete can make the offense work at QB if he can be taught the right technique and decision making skills but again I have a hard time convincing others.
I once was the QB coach at a Florida High School that 2 of my 4 QB's went to the NFL after a successful college career. The third one had a successful college career but chose not to continue in football. The 4th one, who never went on even to college and was the least athletically gifted of the 4, was the very best option QB of them all! You say, how can that be? The simple reason is; BECAUSE HE COULD READ IT BETTER THAN ALL OF THEM! HE WAS THE BEST DECISION MAKER OF THEM ALL! HE HAD BRAINS, NOT A GREAT DEAL OF ATHLETIC ABILITY. We ran the triple (ISV<OSV) out of the bone and he and I lived together on the practice field, in the film room. We had 2 straight 10-0 regular season years, with him at QB. He was not what college scouts wanted for their game, but as a HS QB, he was all any coach would want if you run the option. That in response to your question about having to have a stud at QB in order to be successful at running the option. He never went on as a player in football, but he is now an NFL agent. Thats what brains can do for you.

Would you have a tentative date? I would love to come if I can possibly schedule it in. Just taking this new team, I am up to my ears in getting ready to play. I have committed to being the Head Instructor at a QB camp the second week of June and that is really pushing it for me, as we have 3 pre-season games that month. Then we start our season in July and play straight thru until October, with playoffs in November. I normally try to hold 2-3 QB camps of 3 day duration during the Summer, but had to cancel that program this year as they moved our starting time back to July from August. Please let me know what your plans entail and when, and you have my word I will be there if at all possible. Email me at; coacheaston@hotmail.com or jerryeaston1@aol.com with particulars. I consider it a privilege to have you ask me to speak.

Coach I will be meeting with Coach HArtman today so I will get back with you. The clinic will be early in spring, it would be an honor to have you down in south Texas. Coach CAmpbell
I think you should keep trying what you know. Like you stated about not having much talent, sometimes it's not the X's and O's, it's the jimmy and joe's!!! Granted there may be certain plays or schemes that benefit a less talented team, but keep working hard with your staff and players and coach your heart out. It sounds like you're on the right track about getting the kids excited, winning breeds success, excitement and it is sure a lot more fun when you're doing it.
About the QB situation, I definitly believe Coach Easton on the QB being able to make good decisions, reads, give, keep, pitch, etc. I just posted this same reply to another coach on another site and he had the same question about a QB in the option. Sometimes your Qb might not be the fastest or most athletic, but he can make up for that in good decision making and being able to make good fakes in the mesh or on the pitch. We are a wing-t team that has just added the option in the last two season triple and midline, using a lot of Navy and Air Force principles. Our Qb was not the most talented, but when he made the right read it was beautiful to watch. I'm actually thinking of doing more and doing the opposite of you and go to more of a AirForce/Navy/Geogia Southern style offense. I think it's a great offense. Good luck.
Looking forward to your getting back to me. Tell Dave I said Hello. One of my coaching friends in East Texas said he is on his way to the State 3-AAA playoff today and it promises to be a great game.

Thanks for the input - I think we may try using more TE and just keep working our tails off to get better as coaches and players and it will come around.
