Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
i am curious to ask you who run the tackle trap read play a couple questions.....
1.) As you are deciding how to block the play front side, what do you do versus a 3 tech? and what versus a 1 or 2 tech?
I have heard some people like to release the PSG to the PSLB and trap the 3 tech and i have heard some others who like to simply turn out the 3 technique and then lead the tackle on the LB'er? which you do you prefer and why?
2.) What is the footwork for the one back in gun? I assume you keep the back in your original alignment of outside leg of the guard. is it a drop step if so, do you teach an outside or inside drop step,
We run the dart play (tackle trap) and like to game plan it or check with me the play to the 1 tech or shade on the center. The backside guard will block the block the 3 tech. We like to lead the tackle onto the playside Lber rather than trap a down defender. We seem to get better movement on the 1st level defenders because we can now combo the 1 tech or shade to the backside lber. Hope this helps.
The steps for the back are the same for dart play as our stretch or zone from gun. Our alignment is B gap, splitting the guard and tackle and the toes are aligned on the heels of the QB. Back will lead step at an angle that is in front of the QB and read the combo block of the playside guard and center and follow the pulling tackle.
We tell our tackle to try and inside out the lber and kick him out rather than log him inside. We want him to come right off the hind ends of the playside guard and center on the combo.
I look forward to hearing from others on the dart or tackle trap play.

With tackle trap we are going to trap the first person on or outside the playside guard. We use the alert Word "White" and "Black" for how wide the person being trapped is located. "White" is a short trap letting the tackle know he will be trapping a defender located on the guard if "Black" is alerted then the trap is going long so we are trapping the defender located inside or over the tackle. Of course the QB will read the reaction of the defender on our outside the pulling tackle for give or keep read. We drop step the running back with the QB dropstepping with the foot closet to the back that he is going to mesh with. Coach CAmpbell
