Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
HOW INTENSE DOES YOUR PRACTICES BECOME IN HALF PADS? DOES ANYONE REP THE RUN GAME IN HALF PADS OFFENSE VS DEFENSE? MOST OF YOUR SERIOUS LOWER BODY INJURIES HAVE TO DO WITH TWISTING. JUST WONDERING PEOPLES THOUGHTS. MAYBE JUST TONE DOWN THE INTENSITY? JUST MAKE SURE THE D BUTTONS UP AND EVERYONE STAYS ON THEIR FEET AND OFF THE LEGS. DOES ANYONE DO THIS OR HAVE SEEN IT?
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THAT BEING DONE AT ALL! KIDS GET TOO INTENSE IN SESSIONS LIKE THESE AND TO ONLY BE IN SHELLS IS COURTING DISASTER, IMO. NOW, IF IT IS A WALK THROUGH WITH BLOCKING SHIELDS BEING HELD, ETC. FINE, BUT NOT SPEEDING IT UP. I ONCE LOST A REALLY GOOD TB WHO JUST JOGGED UP THE GUT IN A "RESTRICTED" MIDDLE DRILL IN SHELLS. THE MIKES KNEE HIT HIS AND IT WAS ALL OVER FOR THE SEASON FOR THE KID! I NeVER DID IT AGAIN!

We went top heavy (helmets and shoulder pads) during our entire offensive practices this year and had no lower leg injuries (except for one toe that got stepped on). We place the emphasis on playing fast and keeping everyone up. To be honest, our practices were a heck of a lot sharper and cleaner and injury free than in the past. I think as long as everyone is going hard, and staying off the legs, the injury issue is really minimized.
An unexpected benefit was our scout team actually benefited a lot from this approach too. They were less beat up each week and gave us a better look (not to mention played better in the jv/soph games).
