Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Yesterday after school, a community member came into the weightroom while we were lifting. He exchanged pleasantries with me, and then proceeded to hand me $2,000 in cash to purchase weight room equipment.
I would like to hear your opinions about what kind of equipment I should invest in.
Here's a partial list of what we already have:
2 lateral benches (new) 2 shoulder press benches (new) 1 incline bench (new) 1 decline bench (new) 2 eight-foot squat racks (new) 1 power rack with a deadlift/powerclean platform (new) cable crossover machine (good shape) selector high pulley machine (needs a little TLC) 1 leg extension/leg curl machine (in bad shape) leg press (good shape) just a shade under 2 tons in free weights complete DB set 1.5 - 100 lbs. set of med balls (2-12 lbs) 3 flexballs
These are some of the things that I have had on my "wish list" for some time now:
-Glute/Ham Raise bench -4-way neck machine -set of plyo jump boxes (three 20" boxes, one 32" box with a 10" booster) -one of those vertical jump measurement devices (the one in which you jump up and slap the little plastic tags to see how high you can jump)
I can also get about $1200 from the school and I am planning a fundraiser that will probably bring in another $500-$1000.
Send him my way please, and tell him to bring his 2K with him! I wish that would happen here. Seriously though get the Glute Ham Raise, plyo boxes, and neck machine. Before my arrival my school had none of these. My first year (I was hired in July) we had 3 starters miss games with neck injuries. Since we have had none. Glute Ham is the best exercise for the hamstrings in my opinion. Plyo boxes are great too. I think I have just spent your 2 grand. WIth your fundraiser I would get a Jammer.

Coach, Forget buying anything, put the 2 grand in your pocket and you and the wife take a vacation! Just kidding. The 4 way neck machine is a must, imo! The vertical jump "tree"(the kind you describe) is a nice item to have. If an athlete can leap vertically, he can run too! For nothing more than safety sake, I would replace the items you list as in poor condition.

The Jammer is made by Hammer Strength and his a great tool for training the hip for explosion. If you want to know more, or have a better description look up "Ground Base Jammer" or Hammer Strength/LifeFittness on the internet and you'll find a link to the company. Yes replacing what is in poor condition is good too. What is the paint job and flooring like the wt room? We just put rubber floorign down last spring and man it really looks nice. Now we have to repaint the walls. Should have done it in reverse order I guess but the flooring was cheap...used from a local health club and still in god shape. Had to move fast you know.

After you get back from Hawaii, take whats left and...well, ok nevermind.
If you can get up an extra $1200 from the school + $500 in fundraisers that gives you about $3700 to work with...WOW!
(1) I'd put the leg extension in the corner and use it only for rehab purposes. Its practically useless for training athletes.
(2) You can use plates for neck work...fold a towel for a cushion, put the towel and a plate behind the head for rear neck, on the forehead for front, on the side of the head for side neck. You will need a bench for the front and side work. By using plates you don't have a line at the neck machine because everybody can train the neck together at the same time. Plus, if you go this route, you just saved about a grand.
(3) RE:Glute/Ham Raise...Elitefts makes the best, however you don't exactly have to get one of theirs to get results. They have a GHR machine that runs about $630 including s/h. Buy one and it puts you at $3070.
(4) Reverse Hyper Machine...Elitefts has one for about $850 including s/h. Buy one. That puts you at $2220.
(5) I would take the 2 grand that is left over and find 2 more squat racks and platforms. At least one more. Then buy 0-90 degree benches to put with squat racks. You can do all of your bench work in the rack as well.
Honestly, I would try to sell the leg press, the two shoulder presses, the incline and the decline and get another one or two more squat racks or another cable crossover machine...These are great for abdominal and posterior chain work as well. You should be able to do vertical lat work on the cable crossover (just set a portable bench under the pulley and go to work).
So basically that would leave you with:
Around 6 squat racks, 3 platforms and 0-90 degree benches for at least 3 of the squat racks. (This will allow you to have 3 different main lifts [squat/bench/deadlift or clean] going at once). A quality glute/ham raise machine and a reverse hyper machine. Two cable crossovers, plenty of DB weight and plate weight and med balls. If you have any left, get some sleds, some boxes for box squats and step ups, and some different types of bars (safety squat, cambered, trap bar, etc.) Just spend wisely and be economical.
Dude, I'm drooling right now.....
Hope this helps and if you do this, you must let me come lift if im ever in Illinois!
GoVertical---your wt room will far surpass my alma matter. When I am back home I'll have to look you up and have a look at the facility. By the way I showed the no-back runs to my coaching staff. They dig it, we might have a little nobacks package next year.

Another thing you could do after comparing prices is to maybe get bumper plates for the Deads/Cleans instead of platforms. This may save some dough. I know you can make boxes for both plyos and box squats/step ups. This WILL save you some dough. Good luck with this.
Thanks for all of your suggestions. You guys are more than welcome to stop by if you ever find yourself driving through Lanark. Just don't blink or you will miss us!
I really wish that I had taken Coach Hale's suggestion 4 years ago and purchased a bunch of all-in-one power racks/multi-stations instead of specialized pieces. Story of my life! I always have to learn the hard way. At the time, though, the specialized pieces were cheaper and the equipment that was in the weight room was just so broken down and decrepit.
Chuck -
That's pretty cool that your assistants are excited about the spread package. I'll try to get the passing series to you. We didn't have school today due to snow, so I wasn't able to work on it.
Larnark is not that small. It is not like Woodbine over there between Stockton and Galena. We like the spread, but I cannot abandon our option game. What I would like to be able to do is have a spread package to (A) play catch-up if we have to & (B) keep opponents off guard. I am a veer guy at heart and by experience, and I believe you have to coach what you know. That being said the more you know and can teach well the more dangerous you become. Pitt State (NCAA d2) is a great example. They ran splitback veer, the I power game, and shotgun 4 wide. Now granted HS and NCAA are a different pool but you follow my logic I'm sure. Anyone over there in the UIC run option?
Wise men talk because they have something to say. Fools talk because they have to say something.---Plato
Not really. Lena and Polo runs some veer option out of the Wishbone, but they are more of a power team than an option team. I'm not too sure about the other teams. Currently, the UIC is split into two divisions, North and South. Galena, Stockton, and Orangeville run Wing T. I'm not sure about East DuBuque. Dakota and Lena run Wishbone. I'm not exactly sure what Warren-River Ridge does.
In our side of the conference, we run spread/one back, Aquin, Milledgeville, and West Carroll (Mt. Carroll-Savanna-Thompson co-op) runs Wing T and Forreston and Polo run full and broken Bone.
We played Newman in the quarterfinals this past year and they killed us on midline and veer out of the Bone. We knew that it was coming, but we just couldn't do anything about it.
We played Newman my junior year and beat them 35-7. They lost to Hardin Calhoun in the finals. Newman has always run the bone. Milledgeville has run the wing-t for more than 20 years. Is Hartje still there? Galena runs the wing-t now? I have never seen them line up in anything but a double tight wishbone. Hey, could I see you strengh training program> Or are you straight BFS. If so then I have it. Did you get a chance to check out the program I sent?
Wise men talk because they have something to say. Fools talk because they have to say something.---Plato
Maybe Galena does run the Bone. We haven't played them since I have been here (4 years), but I thought they were running Wing T when they won the state championship in '03. I could be (probably am) wrong.
Hartje is still at Milledgeville and still running the Wing T. They had some very good teams in the late '90s, but they have been down for the last few years.
Forreston has had a real rough go of it. They have been beaten by the eventual state champion 5 out of the last six years in the playoffs. The one year they didn't get beaten by the eventual state champion, they got beat by the state runners-up.
As far as lifting goes, we are straight-up BFS right now. The only thing that I am not doing is the speed/plyo work on T/Th. I just ordered a bunch of stuff from BFS today, including plyoboxes. Once they come in, I think that we will do speed/plyos on Monday and Friday and leave T/Th for core strength work and GPP.
Haven't had a chance to check out the workout yet. It's at school on my desk. Due to weather, we missed school again today. We have had 1 full day of classes this week!
