Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I think your setting yourself up for trouble by using a five man box against double tights. In a 34 as your showing, I think I would tend to think I want my OLBs in 8 techs and the DEs in four techs. Then use various stunts/blitzes to get a four man rush and play Cover two (five man under zone) behind it. Probably roll the corners down in press technique to disrupt a fade release by the #1 and allow the safeties time to play over the top of the fade and smash.
How is he setting himself up? There's NOBODY in the backfield. I like the idea of playing 4's though.....but I think you'd be ok with 5's too. Just my opinion. Thanks
He is setting himself up by being sucked into defending what they are showing in the PSL. All you have to do to change that empty backfield is to deep motion a wide receiver to become a RB, or flat motion him to become a pitchman in a double option.

I'm no offensive coord....but I've seen enough film of Terry Allen running the QB speed option with #2 out there ....eyouch! Numbers are to the offense's advantage
As Tiger One suggested, motion by a wideout or a quick formation shift can put a running back into the backfield quick enough. How about a mobile QB on a QB draw?
really out of this formation what would be the best and most sound way to defend this? basically out of this formation lots of quick passing so there really isn't much time to get to the QB with a 3 step game the only other thing that I could really come up with was to basically give it a man under 2 deep look pressing the WR's to disrupt the timing but even with that playing a man under look then if they would decide to run I still would be out gunned. I thought about a 4 man front ..........hmmm........ took away a skill guy but then again could use him as a rush End and drop into cov. so take a look and tell me what you all think would be best for me to do against this set.
basically out of this formation the team is in a quick 1-3 step passing mode and it's really tough to get to the QB so instead of trying to blitz them I was just trying to find a pkg. were I can force them into doing something but it seems as if I have forced myself into only using one way of attacking a team and I like to be aggressive but I'm jus not sure which way to go whether to use a 3 man front, 4 man DL front or even a 2 man DL front and the 3 man down being a LB type to throw them off. I really need some advice and some cov. ideas to figure this out.
I like your 40 front a little better against the run. Have you thought about using a nickel back in place of the LB aligned on the slot receiver and playing man under two deep? Also, depending on the coverage and run stopping abilities of your Free and Strong Safeties, you may want to have the FS (if a better cover guy) on the side of the two receivers while putting your SS (assuming he's the better run defender) to the one reciever side and maybe even aligning him at 8-9 yards deep with the FS at 10-12.
If the guy aligned as the single receiver is a stud, you could also run some games with the SS and WC to switch coverage responsibilities (e.g., WC drops to deep half while SS covers #1 man to man at the snap, bracket coverage. A possible problem with this scheme is that the Y is covered by the inside LB, and he's outflanked by alignment for any arrow or quick out to the flat, so you would want to think about mixing in the Cover two zone under scheme with the man scheme.
Finally, you would also be able to use some cover 3 by rolling the coverage to the two receiver side with the SC having flat responsibility (I call it Cover 3 Cloud), or the SS can take it with the SC having deep third (Cover 3 Sky) which can take away the smash combos OCs like to run at Cover 2.
:cool;I also llike having some one on the TEs. I would shade my front to the 2WR side and walk my ILB over the slot and play man to man. Mixing up a cov 2 and a cov4.
