Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I think that Brophy is pretty much right on if you want to sit back and play zone. I think you also should go into the game with a way to attack that thing when you want to. Maybe play man and sent two. Out of a 4-4 look you could man up the corners, put the FS on 2 strong, put both inverts on tight ends and send both mike and will. We like to align both tackles in 2's and slant them inside, put our ends in 7's and make the tackles block them, and sent those two backers thru b-gaps. makes the G-C-G block 4.
I just believe that with all of these spread guys you need to very up what you do, make them use there hot checks, make them check and check out, if you think you can play man, show zone and play man, or the opposite.
we are a 40 defense. One year we wanted to get cute against a spread team and attempt a 3-5 package and send different guys, playing two 4i's and a 0.....we switched up at halftime because we were giving them too much time (we switched to an 11 Robber coverage manning up all receivers sending 4 - the middle backer took shallow hole / FS took deep hole....got bored with this since we were taking everything away inside, and kept sending middle backer on blitz....QB finally gave up!)
of course, we had them pinned by that point, so the run game was negated....it's a gamble either way.

I think I would attack this fomation by going with 2's with my tackles and 6's on the ends. You can play your backers on the outside shoulders of the guards and bring the other outside backer out on the slot of the 3 WR side. You can play cover 3 to the strong side and 0 or 2 to the 2 WR side. Depending on how the opponents passing attack is, i think you could keep your base personel in the game against this set.
I agree with Brophy in alignment. We had a lot of success with a man free with that formation. The Corners locked up on #1 SS = #2 and OLB on #3 The FS has his eyes on the QB making his break where ever the QB shoulder points. The good thing out of doing this is that unless they motion the QB is the only guy that can run the ball and that is with no lead blockers. Just somthing to think about.
thanks for all the replies, what do you guys think of this. after watching the Pat's vs Colts I thought about this doing something similar to what the pat's did.
Basically: Corners = locked up on #1 SS = on #2 Sam = #3 Nickel = #2 and backers play normal zone's or blitz. it's a cover 1 man / Free and a similar look to that is a cover 4 man under look is a basic cover 4 only having the NB playing man on the # 2 and everyone else in a zone. so what do you guy's think of that ?
Treat the double flanker/TE like trips: check trips...the adjuster is the Will LB on #3, Sam head up on #1 so as not to get out flanked (normally on 2) and the corner is outside of #1. DT's reduce to two techniques (can slant, double x)
