Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I am interested in hearing some info on this. First, what is the proper or correct way to defend this when you see it? Also, when you are running it, do you allow your holder or kicker to read the defense and make the call or do you make the call from the sideline? What is the pre-snap read? How do you know when to run the 2 point play or to just kick it? Any help is greatly appreciated.
This is how I set my swinging gate (lonesome polecat) up.
Offensively I have a kick call (black) automattically, shift to kick. If I notice that they do not honor our left side I call Orange (throw to FB). If they don't honor the QB and RB I run (Green for grass) and option right (Z cracks) and they option the C. If they do not have enough to cover the TE (the snapper) we will go white (for clouds) pass to the TE doing an out or the Z doing a flag or the TB doing a flare.
Defensively= the right coner has the E on the end of the line man, the Backer has the FB, other side of the gate... both backers have the QB (pound the TE who is the snapper), $ has the TE (snapper), F has the TB, and the left C has the Z.
Once in a while I will run it in the middle of the field and hit the left E on a fade or deep post.

You run this in the middle of the field?
I have seen a few teams line up and run it after a kick off return or even a punt return. Normally they try and run the return to their bench so they can get set up quickly.
If they run option, you need 5 defenders to the snapper/holder side of the formation to defend the QB, Pitch, Z, TE and F running across the formation.
Normally, teams that run this are trying for a quick home run by catching you out of position They aren't so concerned about grinding out a few yards at a time.
You are correct. It was my first year in a poor program and tried to do something to keep them on their does. Averaging 2. something yards a carry didn't help either.
