I am a nine year veteran of coaching all levels and all positions. I am getting a little tired of what is going on at my high school and want to volunteer at a local DI program. I just wrote the head coach an email (five minutes ago), but I was wondering... for some of you DI guys out there, will I be met with open arms, or will I get a "thanks, but no thanks."
Tough to say...My gut says 'Thanks but no Thanks' but you may get lucky. These guys are always wary of outsiders coming in. They have GA's, they have enough assistant coaches and why do they need one more? I'm sure they get all kinds of these requests all the time. I had a friend that was a D1 coach for 10 years and he couldn't get a GA job with Lou Holtz! It really boils down to who you know and not so much what you know.
Where you might be able to sell yourself to is a D2 school that doesn't get all the coaches they need....just a thought and good luck!

Not to discourage you , but when I last read the NCAA rules (2 years ago), volunteer coaches weren't allowed. Now that might have changed. Does anyone out there no for sure?
Thanks. I definitely understand where you guys are coming from. When I say "volunteer", I really don't mean to coach, but to help or assist the coaches during practice, film breakdown, or even in recruiting. Do you think this makes a difference?
