Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Using an "I" backfield, how would run a reverse off an option run? What formations lend itself best to this play? How do you block the backside (meaning the side that the wide receiver would end up running to)? Any help would be appreciated!
We will run the option to the TE side as usual. The only difference is that the slot receiver on the TE side will run towards the backfield on the snap and run between the QB and the tailback. The QB hands the ball to the slot receiver and then carries out the option fake with the tailback.
As far as blocking goes, we tell our backside G and T to influence block the D-linemen (basically by opening up to the outside and letting the D-linemen have the inside gap). By letting the d-linemen take the inside gap, that basically takes those players out of the play because they lose contain and allows our backside T and G to get second level to LBs.
We then expect the backside receiver to stalk block the CB.
