Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
First year in split backs. we always ran an I and had inside and outside option. We are now running OSV, but i am wondering is the ISV just what we used to run, with both options depending on the defensive front? Thats what we think, so we try to simplify by calling either inside or outside, so the kids dont have to make that decision at the line of scrimmage.
Coach - the inside veer and outside veer are two different plays with 2 different paths for the dive back - Outside veer hits in the off tackle hole or C gap with the End man on the LOS usually the dive read. Inside veer hits at the midline or outside hip of the guard(depending on line splits) and the 1st man on or outside the PST is the dive read with the next unblocked defender the pitch key. We would not run the outside veer vs a 4 man front because of the threat of a 6i player that would be right in the mesh. Inside veer vs an 40 front has the DE as the Dive read and has been our #1 play when we see this defense(we rarely see it any more). Outside veer requires a TE while inside veer does not. You might want to run Coach Campbell Option on Me concept and check to the best play at the line. Teams that run the OSV as their base play will use a lot of Dbl Tight - Flanker formation. We are an I team now but ran splitbacks for several years. We kept the ISV as our only triple option and ran G dive and G option in place of the OSV. Glad to share what we have done in split backs in the past.

It is the Down and Down option scheme that Wing T teams run but run out of split backs. (We run it out of the I) Got it from Jerry Kill and we call it 14-15 Belly, 14-15 Belly Option. Oline Blocking is PSE - Inside, LB PST - Inside, On, LB PSG - Pull and Kick DE on Belly, Pull and Log DE on Belly Option(May kick DE if he is upfield) C - Base and Scoop BSG - Base and Scoop BST - Base and Scoop BSE - Cutoff
Backfield action Playside back - (dive Back) 1st step is on inside veer path, 2nd step is at the inside hip of the tackle, Mesh with QB. Backside back - Pitch path, bubble path slightly behind PSHB aligment, Call "Ball, Ball, Ball" when you are in pitch relationship QB - Reverse out flat(2 O'clock to rt, 10 O'Clock to lt) - mesh and hand to Dive back carry out option assignment, on Option play read block of the Guard for inside or outside.
This has been a good play for us - biggest problems are the dive back sliding too wide and not getting North and South in the hole and #2 the QB getting too deep on the Option and losing leverage on the pitch key.
