Here's how I think I'd attack the offense:
......S......................................B...........................................S
C.........C.....................B...L.......L...B...........................C.........C
O...O...O..........................E...C...E...............................O...O...O
.........................................Q........Q
On the videos I've seen, most teams just attempt to stop it with a basic 3-3/4/5 zone defense. I think I'd go with 2-3-6 personnel.
#1) I'd line up two linemen on the inside shade of their TE's. I'd have them play hands-on the TE's off the snap, occupying them, while maintaining a-gap control. This should give me numbers against any inside run. As long as my OLBs are able to turn outside runs back inside, and my MLB is deep enough not to be blocked by the center, I should have numbers on outside run as well. These three "linebackers" will probably need to be my best all-around athletes.
#2) I blitz my OLBs EVERY SINGLE PLAY. Their main responsibility is outside containment. If the QB to their side goes out on a route, however, they stick with him in man2man coverage...and the MLB becomes responsible for outside containment to that side (remember, these three guys are probably your best athletes). Against a scheme this complicated, I want to turn up the pressure, forcing uncomfortable decisions, mistakes, and ultimately - turnovers. On all the tape I've seen...coaches just get scared and drop everyone into their zones. Big, big mistake. You've gotta take it to THEM.
#3) On the outsides I'm going man to man with a safety over the top. Only 4 of these 6 outside guys are going to be elgible, so we've only got to man up 4. With three on three on both sides, we should be able to handle the quick screen~runs.
